Finishing the front

The plastic front of this case really needs some work - I'm planning to add some metal to it.

The "geels", or vents in the front are neither nice, nor do the go with my theme, so I decided to lose them... I'm going to make a grill on the front using the perforated metal I bought earlier - I'm also going to make two side supports for the perforated grill using 1mm aluminium. On the left you can see the template I used, and the finished item.

I made pair of aluminium brackets to hold the logo. However, a problem has come up: with the brackets in place, I can't seem to fit the acrylic structures onto the front of the case, because the bolts that hold the grill are in the way. I ended up modifying the acrylic front a little to get it all to fit.

I added in some bent metal bars as an interesting stand-off for the front etched section.

Illuminating the front

I decided to add some lighting here as well. Two little fittings made from soft modelling plastic. The LEDs will be embedded inside these things.

After some fiddling with a soldering iron and some braided sleeving, the lighting was almost there - a case of routing the cables in the right place and drilling the hole to mount them.
